Mobile Host Jail Releases
Mobile County Metro Jail is not a Macon County facility, but it became part of the Macon County release path after the June 2025 jail-closure reporting. WSFA and Fox10 reported that all Macon County inmates were moved out of the Macon County Jail, and Fox10 reported that about 17 were held at Mobile Metro Jail. That means Mobile may hold the physical custody record for a Macon detainee while Macon County remains the source for the local criminal case, commitment authority, and sheriff prisoner record.
Use the Mobile page only for the Mobile layer. If the person appears in Mobile's live custody tools, the person is still physically housed there unless the entry has stale data or a later movement occurred. If the person no longer appears, do not treat that absence alone as proof of release to the community. The answer may be release, transfer back to Macon authority, transfer to Shelby, movement to ADOC, a court order, or another agency hold. The Macon sheriff and Macon court records must resolve the legal reason.

Mobile Who's in Jail
The Mobile County Sheriff's Office publishes a Who's in Jail page. Research text from that page showed names, dates, charges, bonds, and Macon County safekeeping language in a charge line. For a Macon County person physically housed in Mobile, this current-custody feed can be the fastest public check. It answers a live custody question, not a historical release question.
Search by name when possible and compare charge wording, booking date, and other identifiers. If the charge line says Macon County safekeeping or another other-agency label, the person may be in Mobile only because Macon County needed a host facility. A release from Mobile's building may depend on a Macon County court order, sheriff order, bond acceptance, hold removal, sentence completion, or transfer. The Mobile record should be paired with the Macon sheriff prisoner book and the Circuit Clerk docket.
Mobile's current-custody feed is not a Macon County released-inmate archive. It helps locate a hosted person before the formal release reason is verified.
Mobile Booking Is Not Release
Mobile also publishes a 24-Hour Booking page. The research file is clear that this is a booking window, not a release window. It may show recent physical intake into Mobile Metro Jail. It does not prove that a Macon County detainee was released, and it should not be described as a Macon 24-hour release list.
This distinction matters for same-day research. A person who appears on the 24-Hour Booking page may have just entered Mobile custody for safekeeping. A person who does not appear may have been booked earlier, moved elsewhere, or not routed through the public page. If the question is whether the person left custody, call Mobile Metro Jail and ask whether the person remains in custody, was released from Mobile, or was transferred. Then call or request Macon records to determine the Macon legal result.
The Mobile booking page is still useful because it can put a date on physical movement into the host jail. For Macon County release tracking, that date helps frame a request to the sheriff, court, or host jail. It also helps distinguish a person released from Macon legal custody from a person merely moved out of the closed Macon building.

Confirm Mobile Release
When Mobile is the last known physical facility, the release workflow should keep two tracks open. First, use Mobile County Metro Jail for the building-level custody question. Second, use Macon County for the charge, commitment, and court-order question. A release from Mobile may be a physical release from the host jail, but the legal reason can be a Macon court order or Macon sheriff action.

- Check the Macon County Circuit Clerk docket for bond, dismissal, sentence, warrant, or probation orders.
- If the person moved to ADOC, use the Alabama Department of Corrections custody page and ADOC search.

Do not ask Mobile to certify the final Macon County court outcome unless Mobile directs you to a specific record it controls.

For older or formal release records, pair Mobile's answer with the Macon sheriff prisoner record. If the Mobile record says "released" but the Macon court docket shows a transfer to ADOC or another hold, the person may not be free from all custody. If the Macon record shows bond or court release but Mobile still shows current custody, ask whether there is a second hold or a data lag.
Mobile Records and Photos
The research did not establish a Mobile released-photo archive. Treat any Mobile image or booking data as a host-jail booking record. A booking photo does not prove current custody, and release confirmation should come from custody status, release/transfer notes, Macon sheriff records, or the court docket. If a photo is needed for a valid records purpose, identify whether Mobile, Macon, or another agency booked the person before requesting it.
For records involving state-prison movement, Mobile is not the final source. ADOC's current inmate search can identify active state custody, but ADOC states that historical data is not available online. A released state-prison person may need ADOC public records, ABPP records, VINE/VNS notices, and court records rather than Mobile Metro Jail.
