Macon County Release Fields

It can prove the order and date of release from jail custody, but the court file explains whether the charge was dismissed, resolved, continued, sentenced to probation, or converted into another custody path. The county site also has a public-records link in navigation, but research found the PDF path did not load cleanly, so the sheriff contact and county contact page are the practical fallback.

- Give the name, date of birth if known, booking date range, arresting agency, and case number if known.
- Ask for release order/date, release reason, releasing facility, and whether the person was transferred rather than released.
- If a host jail was involved, request that physical custody record from Mobile or Shelby and pair it with Macon records.

Alabama's general public-record copies rule appears in Ala. Code Section 36-12-41, which addresses reasonable copy fees after proper request. The research did not verify a specific Macon County jail release-record fee. Do not assume one. Ask the custodian for current cost, format, and timing before sending payment.
Macon County Jail Status
The most distinctive Macon County release issue is physical custody location. WSFA reported on June 24, 2025 that Sheriff Andre Brunson said the Macon County Jail was uninhabitable, had been closed for several weeks, and that all 42 inmates had been moved to Mobile and Shelby county jails. Fox10 also reported transfers to those host jails, including about 17 people at Mobile Metro Jail.
That history changes the search order. A person held for a Macon County case may have a Macon release order, a Mobile or Shelby physical custody record, and a Macon court docket entry. Those records can all be relevant at once. A host jail can show whether the person left its building, but it does not replace the Macon sheriff or court for the local case. Treat every result as one layer until the release reason is reconciled.

Macon County Host Jails
Mobile County and Shelby County are not Macon County courts, but they matter when they physically hold a Macon County detainee. Its related 24-Hour Booking page can show recent booking into Mobile, not release from Macon custody. Shelby County has a stronger recent-release feature for hosted people because the Shelby County inmate listing includes Current Inmates, Recent Arrivals, and Release in the Last Thirty Days. The Shelby release tab can confirm physical release from Shelby's jail building. It still needs to be paired with the Macon sheriff record or court order for the Macon case. The Shelby listing also states that clicking an inmate name can display a picture, which may matter for booking-photo research.

Macon County ADOC Search
The Alabama Department of Corrections inmate search is useful after a Macon County case becomes a state-prison sentence. ADOC says the public database contains currently incarcerated inmates only and that historical data is not available online. That limit is central. A person who was released directly from Macon County Jail on bond, court order, citation, or time served will not be found through ADOC unless there is a state-prison custody path.

Macon County Supervision Records
Release does not always mean no supervision. Parole is release from prison under Board conditions. Macon County Release Alerts
Alabama VINE through VINELink is the release-alert path for custody-status notifications. The state landing at VINELink Alabama lists phone help at 1-877-846-3425. VINE can be useful when a person changes custody status, but a notice is not the same as a sheriff release order or court disposition. Reconcile the alert with the source agency.
Alabama also has a separate Victim Notification System. The research notes that VNS is for offenders convicted in Alabama and sentenced to ADOC prison custody. It should not be treated as a general Macon County pretrial jail release list. For federal cases, use the BOP inmate locator. Getting Home After Release
Macon County release logistics should be handled with care because the research did not verify jail pickup rules or a set release time. It did verify a local transportation resource. Transportation facts do not prove when a jail will release a person. They help after release has been confirmed. If a person is expected to leave Mobile or Shelby physical custody, check the host jail location first. Then confirm the Macon case status through the sheriff or court. If the release is to parole, mandatory supervision, or probation, the supervising office and approved plan may affect where the person is allowed to go next.
Macon County Record Limits
Absence from a public search does not prove that no arrest, custody stay, or release happened. Alabama expungement is court-granted under Title 15, Chapter 27, and the ALEA expungement page says ALEA does not grant expungements. Juvenile limits, youthful-offender status, sealed orders, data-retention rules, spelling errors, and old records can also change what appears online.
